Where Shabby Chic Goes to Die

Space hogging poodle...

Today, I paid an early morning visit to the annual Moss Landing Flea Market. Over the years, a great deal of my home has been furnished with trinkets and furniture from this awesome summer flea market.  This morning it was very foggy, and overcast. Although it opened at 8:00 a.m., it was already crowded at 7:45, when I arrived. I'll post another entry with my 2013 purchases!

Ambivalent greeter...

Turquoise porch chair...

Crusty piggy banks...

A boy from 1832...

Beautiful sandals...

Ridiculously expensive head that I really wanted badly...

Homemade doll bed...

Plein air palette...

By the strand...

Or, by the bead...

Fantastic metal heads...

Fashion plates...

Wall of starlets...

No to the music, yes to the couch...

Stacked buckets...

Hurtful message...

Medicine Cabinet Nesting Box

Handbuilt nests barely fit into the flea market cabinet...

Painted the cabinet with yellow and blue, then antiqued it...

Dried nests are ready for the first firing...

Eggs that have been fired need glazing...

Starting to glaze the leaves...

Nests in the kiln for the second firing...

Eggs heading off to the kiln...

After the brown wash has been applied...

View inside the cabinet...

Hopefully the door will close...

The knob matches the finish on the eggs...

Finally finished...

"Testing, Testing… One, Two, Three…"

I'm testing the backing system on my wall pieces. I had one wall piece with the new system successfully make it out of two firings (Cone 3 & Cone 04). So, I've built two more. Both are made with Navajo Wheel Clay, and some Cone 5 B-mix flowers added for color. I really hope that these turn out well, unlike the piece in the bottom picture, which cracked. Fingers crossed!

Diane has a Yart Sale

Diane is an artistic genius. She invited me to visit her garage and yard as part of her "Yart Sale". It was a delight to wander around, to see her projects, supplies, and her sculptural still lifes. Oh, and the prices were pretty awesome, too! I purchased some new friends for my studio, while Diane custom made me a press mold out of wet clay, from one of her many sewer grate clay stamps. Best afternoon I've had in ages… I'll think of it every time I wear my pin, or look at my hanging jar-robot-man!
