A Busy Weekend

Molars and their dice shaped bases...

The bust needs it's bottom to be attached...

The bottom gets paddled on to the end coils, once it has firmed up...

There will be a pole, connecting the various pieces...

This experiment broke, so it's ripe for rebuilding...

Starting over...

Meanwhile, the bust spends a bit of time sunbathing...

Hopefully, this one will survive...

Good Friday

Trying to figure out how to assemble some parts...

A base of a woman with the weight of the world on her shoulders...

Still need to attach the base on the bottom...

Meanwhile this is done...

Making more molars for a "bucket of teeth"...

Copycat

I kept seeing flower tiles on Pinterest...
We had a lot of dried out, balled up clay to use...
Also, we have some areas of the school that need decoration...
So, we made some flower tiles...
And, they are broiling away, as I type...

Last Minute Spring Break Work

Trying out an arbol de vida with a paper clay base...

This wall plaque is entirely paper clay, except for leaves and flowers...

Another arbol experiment, with some assorted clay...

A wall plaque with b-mix sides and decorations...

This one has more b-mix as well...

More anatomical...

Liking the stylized flames on this one...

Another Caul Arthur Moment

Found a kindred spirit...
Curious youngster...
Staircase still standing...
Hypnotic doggie...
The bottle brush and eucalyptus are taking over...
Portraiture...
Dozens of these buildings were slated to be art studios...
I could totally work in this one, with a view of the valley...
Oh well, they'll become hideous suburban sprawl...

Grant Outdid Himself

The drive along the coast to San Francisco...

I met my friend, Grant, back many years ago, when we both worked at Macy's as display trimmers. Grant is now the head of Visual Merchandising for Macy's Union Square. After seeing some photos of this year's flower show, I knew that I wanted to view it in person. So, my sister drove over from the East Bay, and we met at Union Square. There was so much attention to detail. It made me feel very proud of Grant. On the drive home, I kept thinking back to the olden days, of painting letters in the shop, and of endless ironing. I learned to work hard at Macy's. We always moved fast, and got things done quickly and efficiently. And, ideas and creativity were important. Everyone contributed to complete large projects.

There were some really nice touches today... Congrats to everyone on a job well done.

The flower show theme was "Carnival"...
My sister posed with Laughing Sal...
Loved the ticket bustier, and the caramel corn corset...
All of the flowers were colorized with the awnings...
The main aisle looked like a carnival midway...
And, it smelled amazing on the first floor...
So much special detail...
Visited the top floor...
Ate some fried food, and had a ridonculous cheesecake...
Took another look around Union Square...
Then, headed back home...

Tuesday's Child.

Still no Navajo Wheel, so I switched to Paper Clay...

Just finished putting the bottom slab on this bust...

Got a new, smaller, more flexible rib...

Building up the inside with coils, and then smoothing...

Putting a shirt front on the smoothed bust...

Adding flames instead of a head...

Placing shoulder teeth...
