What is Sculpture?

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about sculpture. A few years ago, after a casual comment regarding my ceramic art, made in passing, I decided that my work wasn't functional. I decided to embrace sculptural work. And, I have. But, there are as many possibilities as there are media. How can I narrow down my thoughts? These are some photos from a Sculpture Research file that I have on Pinterest. There is so much variety.

Last weekend, I talked to my friend, Liz Crain, about sculpture. We even took a field trip to the museum for research. This evening, I ran into Oscar Netsil at the grocery store. We talked briefly about sculpture, as well. It's a hot topic.

In a few weeks, I need to come up with a plan in order to enter an annual show at the Pajaro Valley Arts Council Gallery, entitled "Sculpture Is". This show is a true favorite. I have been in it a time or two, and even entered work by my students one year. This year, I'm going for it again. I hope that my mind will start percolating with answers, instead of just formulating questions... Hoping to enter a collaborative student piece, and a personal piece this time! Liz and Oscar might be working on sculptures as well... Consider this my statement of intent.
