Wash Day Wednesday

A brown wash for the orange shrine, brings out the texture...

I guess that vacation is officially over! Today was a work day. I needed to get these pieces ready for a cone 3 firing in the kiln tomorrow night. All of this work received a wash of coffee black underglaze, diluted with water.  Then, the wash was sponged back. This brings out the texture in the work, and sometimes clogs my kitchen sink! I'm thinking of buying shares of stock in Drano!

I can feel school approaching behind my shoulder, so it's time to wrap up some of my bigger projects. Only one more shrine to finish for Open Studios, and these wall pieces will be done after this particular trip to the kiln. Then, I can work on some smaller stuff!

This avocado green shrine also got washed...

The last round of clear glaze test tiles were washed...

Which is more difficult, covering the entire piece?

Or, sponging the wash back?

This wall piece has a great deal of woodgrain texture...
